Some people might think that parents should
not express their opinions to a teacher about how he or she teaches their
children. However, contrary to this, I firmly believe that they should convey
their comments on disapproval to him or her about a teaching method if they are
not satisfied with it. This is because commenting on the disagreement prevents
misunderstandings with a school instructor and gives motivation to him or her.
To begin with, expressing disapproval
towards a teacher is necessary to get rid of some misunderstandings. To
explain, if parents think that a tutor in school were awkward at instructing
his students in class, the parents would get worried and doubt his
qualification as an ordinary educator. Thus, if he is willingly to accept any
criticism on his lessons, this dispute between the parents and the teacher will
be solved smoothly. As an example, one of my older brothers, Dooley, was a
class teacher in an elementary school in Korea. While he took charge of a class
in the school, the students had poor grades on mathematics, English, and
science. Their parents complained to him concerning the grades strongly.
However, he was gladly to listen to their demand that he should change his
teaching styles and use different materials in class. This leaded to improving
the students’ school records and both the parents and Dooley were content with the
result. Eventually, it resolved any further conflicts between the parents and
him.
On top of that, giving disapproval
regarding a teacher’s education makes him or her motivated. To be more
specific, a school educator may fall into mannerism at his job as time passes,
which make him neglectful of teaching his students in class. However, if their
parents gave advice about the negligence, he would get motivated to ameliorate
the problem and make more efforts to educate his students. From a survey
researched by the Ministry of Education in Korea, about ninety percent of
primary school teachers responded that they became stereotyped towards their
teaching skills, counselling with students, and managing school activities as
time went by. This caused a negative influence on the students’ education and
their parents required the educators to rectify the mannerism immediately. The
school instructors began to figure out what problems were in classes, such as
poor communication with their students or complacency on the way of teaching
them. As a result, this request from the parents made the school teachers
passionate again.
In conclusion, although some argue that it
is not desirable for parents to express their discontents over teaching styles,
I strongly think that parents have to give a teacher their comments or opinions
related to the ways of instruction in school. The reason is that it helps not
only to preclude unnecessary misunderstandings, but also get teachers motivated
in their jobs. |
