▶ Your Answer : There are some people who believe that people learn more from their peers than their elders. However, I personally disagree with above idea for two subsequent reasons. This is because elders have more life experience and more comprehensive understanding of life. To begin with, older people have a wealth of experience in many aspects of life, and are thus able to provide practical assistance to younger people. As older people have accumulated their own know-how in their careers or lives, they have many resources and skills with which to teach and guide younger people. For example, I learned much more from my senior employees than from my peers when I first started working at our bank. The reason is that my peers did not have much work experience, so we were not able to learn much from each other. On the other hand, the senior employees in my department taught me many important work skills, such as how to create effective presentations and write handful docnments. They helped me greatly, and thanks to them, I was able to adapt quickly to the new environment. On top of that, older people tend to have more comprehensive understanding of life. They are not only more mature, but can also teach younger people valuable life lessons, such as patience and wisdom. In this respect, older people’s understanding can affect younger people’s lives in positive ways. For instance, after failing multiple times to pass the exam for becoming an English teacher, my sister became extremely discouraged. Most of her friends advised her to pursue a different career, and she soon became stressed about her future. Meanwhile, my parents advised her to continue studying and try to pass the exam again. To encourage her to stick with her goal, they told her their stories of how they overcame failures in their lives. Because of their advice, my sister rose to the challenge, finally passed the exam, and became a teacher last year. To sum up, elders have more actual experience as well as more comprehensive understanding of life. In this regard, I believe that people learn more from older people than they do from those in the same age group.
