In my view I strongly disagree that
children have to learn themselves from their mistake without parent’s
instruction. Although this seems apparent to me, this might not be the case for
others, so I will use the points of stress and fear against challenge, which I
think will be adequate to illustrate my thought on the topic at hand.
To
begin with, children will be stressed out if they have to experience mistakes
whenever they learn something new. Commonly, children have not experience
related to school life or relation with others since they spend almost their
time in a house with their parents. This is why if parents do not instruct
their children at first, they cannot manage the own task at all. A really good
example is my friend, Park. When he was eight-years old, he had first homework in
elementary school. At that time, His parents thought that Park had to homework
by himself because they agree that “Mistakes are best teacher.” However, Park
cannot complete every homework, becoming anxious and irritated at his
situation. He felt frustrate and could not manage stress. After that time, he
had been experienced hard time to overcome that feeling. The same situation
would apply to children who are not instructed by their parents. They will
undergo a stressful situation when they face with events that they never have
been experienced.
On
top of that, another important that I feel is worth mentioning is that negative
memories related to mistake in childhood can cause fear emotion when people get
similar situation. This point can be explained by an article in the Korean
Herald about a survey conducted by Seoul National University. The survey claims
that 70% of professionals in their 30~50s who unwilling to take a new project have
failed to get promoted. Even more surprising was the fact that they have
traumatic problem about new challenge because their bad experiences in
childhood are reminded whenever they face to a new circumstance, which is similar
situation at childhood in that they have to deal with a new task by themselves.
If their parents had helped them to overcome a new environment well, they have not
been suffered from traumatic problems.
In
a nutshell, because children have difficulty to deal with a new environment, it
would be a prudent decision if parents instruct their children to do not get a
bad experience. From reasons and examples stated above, I believe it is
possible to fully understand my standing on this issue.
