The debate on how to wisely raise a child has been an
ongoing issue since a long time. Some parents say that offering liberty to
children is the best way to develop their creativity and encourage them to
succeed in life. However in my opinion, setting up strict rules for kids will
enable them to become someone successful in the future.
To begin with, discipline helps children to build patience.
Under strict regulation, children are often in a position where they must
oppress their immediate need in wanting to do something. From this procedure,
they will learn how to keep their patience and overcome situations that are not
as satisfying as they wanted. In my personal experience, I was raised in a
strict family where spoiled behaviors were not allowed and punished. With my
parent’s discipline since early childhood, I have learned how to stay calm and
control my emotion and this helped me pass through difficult times in life. With
life being so unpredictable at times, patience is crucial in letting kids learn
how to pass tough moments and aim for their goal without giving up.
On top of that, strict rules can establish better sociality
in people when applied from early childhood. In many inspiring interviews of
successful people, relationships and network are often quoted as the most
significant component to success. According to a canine behavioral study at the
School of Veterinary Health in University of California Davis, they have
discovered that puppies learn their first discipline by getting refused for breastfeeding
by mother dogs. And puppies who are separated too early from their mothers miss
this training, ending up having more problems in socializing with other dogs
and even with their owners. What we can
learn from this study is that, we also receive our first discipline from our
parents or caregivers and evolve ourselves into social human beings to function
in a society.
To sum up, strict rules from parents lead children to embody
patience and better sociality, which are necessary behaviors in achieving a
successful life.
