▶ Your Answer : I disagree that parents today are more involved in
their children's education than were parents in the past. The main reasons are
because the public school are well developed; there are a variety of
educational systems and tools without involvements of parents; and parents are
much busier nowadays than in the past.
First of all, modern public schools are well
developed to educate kids and teenagers. In the past, public schools were so
primitive, so many kids stayed at home rather than attending schools.
Accordingly, the kids had sufficient time to spend their time with their
parents. This naturally made a home education system. However, the current
education system is mainly relying on the public schools as they are primary
educational sources. This is possible because the teaching system at public
schools have been well developed while building up solid teaching materials and
hiring well-trained teachers. For example, the elementary school that my daughter
attends has an organized educational system which teaches sports, music,
philosophy, as well as basic courses such as English, math, and physics. In the
day when my parents were kids, the public school mainly taught primary courses
like English and math because a lack of importance of the public schools and
knowledgeable teachers. Thus, they weren't able to have a good environment to
enhance other knowledge and skills, such as music.
Second of all, the modern society provides a variety
of supplementary educational systems and tools that fulfill the educational
needs without involvements of parents. Academies are the best examples of the
additional educational systems. This private educational system is normally
operated after the public school hours or during summer and winter vacations.
Besides, YouTube and many educational broadcasts on TV also offer supplementary
educations in a broad range. Children normally like to watch such systems at
home. Thus, these systems occupy the many of the kids' hours daily, so no more
education from parents is required.
Finally, parents are much busier nowadays than in
the past. The busy life styles of the adults discourage them to spend their
time on educating their children at home. Thus, parents today are hard to get
involved in the education, and eventually they are relying on the public
schools and public educational resources mentioned above. According to the
statistical data analyzed by Harvard University, which was published in The
Economist in 2016, the parent's time spent with their kids have decreased by 35 % on average over the world
in the last 30 years. The interview with many of parents reveals that they are quite
exhausted after returning back from their work places and housework, so many of
them have difficulty to find time to spend on the educations for their
children.
In
conclusion, parents today are not more involved in their children's education
than were parents in the past because of three reasons: well-developed public
schools, a variety of supplementary educational systems and tools; and much
busier life nowadays than in the past. |
