▶ Your Answer : Some people argue that helping with household chores is better for children. However, in my opinion, this perspective is not true for following two reasons which I am going to elaborate. First of all, playing with friends and doing diverse activities outside help children learn interpersonal skills and how to deal with people. When children play with friends and communicate each other like playing soccer, they can learn about social skills and teamwork naturally. Like there is a saying "It is who you know, not what you do, that makes you succeed." The meaning of success has completely changed compared to the past. If it was merely focusing on one's own way and exceeding others, now it is different. Along with your own ability, it is crucial for people to be recognized by others and have followers. In this sense, playing with friends when they were children is helpful for their success later. For instance, when I was a child, my parents always worked late at night, so my sister had to do wash dishes and household chores. Thus, my sister could not play with her friends and had few friends. My parents thought it is their fault and made me play with friends every day. Consequently, thanks to my parents I could play sports with many friends and build a lot of relationship. On the top of that, helping with household chores is not a productive activity but only a waste of time. If children waste time helping parents with wash dishes, will time wait for them? The answer will be no. The saying that helping with chores is a way to learn responsibility for children is an old story. In the world we live in, time is a gold. Since they cannot turn time back, children must do more productive activities like playing with their friends and studying. They can gain diverse experience when they play outside and they can accumulate a wide variety of knowledge when they study. Also, they can learn about responsibility. However, if they only do household chores in their home, they cannot learn anything. For example, a survey was conducted by The Board of Education, with university students as respondents. The purpose of the survey was to understand consensus about the benefit of doing household chores in our society. An overwhelming 80% of respondents answered that they could not learn anything when they did household chores. They also said playing sports or studying math is more educational for them. This survey proves that people have a negative view of helping with household chores for children. On the whole, I believe I have accurately demonstrated my point of view on this matter with two concrete reasons and evidence stated above. Since views of life and values differ among individuals, it seems like this subject will always remain controversial. |
