Some people think that it is better that people have friends who are
similar to them. They may think that similar friends give some advantages.
However, in my opinion, making friends who are not similar to themselves is
more beneficial. This is because people can enlarge their perspectives and
thoughts. Also, they can enjoy diverse activities.
To begin with, people can widen their
thoughts and perspectives. Generally speaking, friends who are not similar to myself
oneself may have different or extended ideas and
views. Therefore, these help people to enlarge their range of thoughts because
people can learn about different ideas from the friends. Let me take my
experience as an example. When I was in high school, I did not like classical music because it was very boring for me. I thought
rock music was the best music in the world. One day, one of my best friends
said that classical music was the best music and
he taught me how to listen to classical music.
The more I listened to the music, the more I
liked it. Eventually, I could extend my perspective about music. This showed
that different friends from myself oneself
helped people to enlarge their thoughts. (classic music이 아니라 classical music이 옳습니다)
On top of that, people can enjoy many activities by their friends who are
different from them. Usually, it is more likely
that the friends are not similar to myself have different hobbies and
the friends could help people to enjoy the
hobbies by teaching them how to enjoy that them. (enjoy라는 표현은 너무 반복적으로 사용하셨어요. 다른 표현들 (예를 들어
play, participate 등등)을 사용해 주시면 더 글이 자연스럽습니다.) There was a poll conducted by Korea
University with students as respondents. The survey’s purpose was to determine whether friends affect the beginning of hobbies.
An overwhelming 70% responded that friends helped them when they started their
hobbies. They said friends taught them how to enjoy hobbies side by side and
they eventually could enjoy their hobbies. This showed that people could obtain
diverse experiences through their friends.
To sum up, I believe it is more
beneficial to make friends who are not similar to myself oneself. This is due to the fact that people can make
their thoughts and perspectives more plentiful and they can obtain diverse
experiences from many activities.
