Some people think that to protect the environment, the government should invest in alternative energy sources or protect forests and wildlife species. However, in my opinion, the best way to protect environment is to pass and enforce laws. This is because laws can handle companies and people who make factors to pollute and strong laws can help people know the importance of the environment. To begin with, the government can deal with companies and people by making the laws to protect the environment. If the laws pass, people would be more likely to obey the rules to avoid punishments and it would have a good impact on the environment. Let me take my experience as an example. When I was in elementary school, My city had many factories near a river. Since, there is no laws about pollutants in my city, the factories made the river contaminated easily. One day, however, strong laws to protect the river passed and many factories followed the rules to avoid punishments. As a result, the river’s condition was recovered. On top of that, laws make people know how the environment is important. Usually, laws and punishments are very strong effects to change people’s ideas. Therefore, if the government advertised the laws and punishments, people can change their thoughts. For example, there was a study conducted by the Korea University with students and two groups are monitored. One group consisted of people who had a documented directions as rules and other group was composed of people who had a oral directions as rules. Researchers gave them same directions and a result was very intriguing. The former group people followed the directions well. They said that documented rules had visual effects. Therefore, it changed their thoughts to follow the rules well. To sum up, I believe that laws about environment are the best way to protect environment. This is due to the fact that the laws can handle people and it can change the people’s perspectives. |
