Some people think that parents can encourage their children to study hard by preventing them from watching television. They may think that watching television hampers children to study. However, in my opinion, parents should let their children watch television to prompt them to study diligently. This is because educational television programs can help children study effectively and they can relieve their stress. To begin with, educational television shows can help children study efficiently. Nowadays, many educational programs are shown on television and they contain relevant contents to what children study. Thus, they can help children understand the contents more and study effectively. For instance, my friend enjoyed watching a Korean historic issue debate show on television every evening. He could understand many contents more that he learned from his school through watching the show and it helped him study effectively. Thus, he could get good grades on his mid-term and final history exams. On top of that, students can relieve their stress. Generally, these days, children get stressful from many factors such as school lives, getting grades, and relationships with friends and it can disturb children’s study. When they enjoy watching television, they can forget other things and then their stress can be lessened. I can take an example of my experience. When I moved to Canada from Korea at first, I always felt stress of speaking English and also struggled with having new friends at my school. It made me not to concentrate on studying. However, I could forget these stressful things by watching my favorite television show. When I was watching the show, my stress was gone and then I could study hard. To sum up, I believe that parents should not prohibit their children from watching television to encourage them to study hard. This is because children can study effectively by watching educational programs on television and can relieve their stress. |
